We hand build our sunglasses one pair at a time, and thought it’d be cool to show our customers the process. From start to finish, you’d be surprised at how many people are actually involved. When you place an order for a pair of Bajíos, you want to know someone in this country who actually gives a crap is immediately handling it. So, in the spirit of transparency, we’re going to pull the curtains back on what happens after your place your online order for your favorite frames and lenses.
Everything cool takes place in our factory in New Smyrna Beach, FL where you’re just as likely to trip over a sleeping dog as you are to find Jay Johnson cooking lunch for the entire staff. We’ve got a handful of specialists here, starting with the E-comm Customer Service Team. When your order is placed, you’ll immediately receive a message that we’re on it. That’s because a similar message is being sent to our E-comm Customer Service Team, who review the order looking for address errors, spelling issues or anything that might delay the construction or shipping of the finished product.

From there, the ECST fires off a job ticket so your sunnies go onto a build list for the Operations Team, the gang behind the actual construction of your sunglasses. The first step in the build process goes to the Lab Technician, the person pulling the exact lenses for your frames. Our Lab Technicians are wizards with glass and polycarbonate.
Before being cut, the lenses are inspected for blemishes, matched up, then machine cut, and the edges smoothed and beveled. All you have to do to understand the value of expertise is try the next step on your own, which is fitting the pre-cut lenses into the frame. This process starts with the heating of the frame to make it expand so the lenses will pop into place easier. And it works amazingly well, except when it doesn’t.
After building and fitting each lens into the frame, the finished pair goes to Quality Control, the crew that flex and stretch each pair to hand test them for durability and strength. Then all the items from the picklist, including a lens cleaning cloth, a cotton carry bag, and a cactus leather case are placed into a box and checked off.
Once completed, the boxed pair of new sunglasses goes to Shipping, the place where you’re most likely to get the back of your shirt covered in labels if you’re not paying attention. The Shipping Crew seals everything up, labels it and adds the postage, before letting it join its pals in the outgoing mail bin. In a day or two, the finished pair shows up at your door. From there, you’re rockin’ your new Bajíos everywhere you go.
Dig it.
