Species

Bass: One of the most popular fish to chase around the campus, Bethel is a short drive to three of the most common bass species in multiple directions. Lake Halford has Largemouth, while Ky Lake has an abundance of Largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass. Tons of ponds and creeks around the area can hold big largemouths, making it a popular option for everyone.

Crappie: Another popular fish to chase, there are many opportunities to catch slab crappie. Lake Halford, Ky Lake, and Reelfoot are all short drives from campus. Multiple crappie beds can be found at all these locations, making it easy to target them.

Catfish: Another popular option along the TN River, there are many different catfish species to choose from. Everything from big channel cats to blue catfish can be found along the lake and can be caught from the bank as well as via boat or kayak.

Bowfishing (Asian Carp/Gar): A popular fishing style starting to emerge around campus, Bowfishing is becoming a fun option for those looking to try something different. Asian carp can be found along the TN River, while many various carp and gar can be found in the streams and ditches located around the school.

Accessibility

Paris Landing State Park: One of the most popular boat ramps and fishing locations along the TN River, a 40-minute drive from campus puts you in the heart of one of the prime fishing locations in the state. Bass, crappie, and catfish boats all launch out of here, making it a prime spot to meet people and learn about the lake.

Lake Halford: A shorter drive from campus, 20 minutes and you are at a very popular 1000-acre lake that holds many species of fish such as largemouth and crappie as well as a popular beach right on the lake where you are bound to see classmates during the warmer months. There are multiple locations from the bank to fish, as well as kayaks being a popular option, along with boats.

Caroll County Lake: A small lake located just 5 minutes from campus, this is a popular spot to fish between classes. With lots of bank access as well as Jon boats available for free, this is a popular spot for people without kayaks/ boats on campus who want to burn off some time with good friends. The small stream from the tailrace holds good bow fishing opportunities, while the lake itself holds large amounts of largemouth with some crappies mixed in. Can be reached by car, bike, or walking, making it viable for everyone!

Community

This is a school where you can find friends of all skill levels and passions to fish with. From kids who fish casually, to one of the best and most recognized college bass fishing teams in the country, it's easy to find a group of friends that match your skill levels and abilities.

Hangouts/Shops

With all the fishing that can be done around the school, you would think there were multiple tackle shops and places to find people of similar interests. For whatever reason, there isn't. While some gas stations/ boat dealerships towards Paris Landing sell tackle to get you started, anything specific you want will have to be ordered. If you are looking for something to do on a random weekend the Bass Pro Shops pyramid in Memphis is a sight to see, and a short 2-hour drive from campus.
