Jesse Colten (owner of the Xflats) and filmmaker Meris McHaney were the first in the fly fishing era to gain a temporary permit from the national park office to catch and release fly fish on Banco Chinchorro. The trial permit was only for two days. The crew fished/explored approximately 10% or less of the atoll in that time frame.
