Non-Natives And How To Catch Them
Florida man, Florida fish. We’ve got some crazy stuff going on down here, pythons, Amazonian invasives, and shirtless dudes doing all kinds of weird stuff. We knew Florida was the state to set up shop, because we’re a little weird, too. Here are some of our favorite fish to target in the Sunshine State.
Some fish farm purposely let these puppies go in the early 1950’s. Now they're everywhere. Fish for them like crappie and you’ll crush em! Jigs, crickets, little worms, you’ll whack 'em!
Imagine flirting with a woman at a stoplight, but she’s a foot taller than you, in a Bentley, and you're on a Walmart BMX bike. It's not gonna happen, at least not on rod and reel. Get a net, or grab one. It might be a little easier.
If you can catch a largemouth, you know the deal. Live shinners are almost a guarantee, but a swimbait, popper, or jig can get it done too. These fish are epic, and unless you can cough up the cash to go to South America, South Florida might fit the bill.
These fish share some characteristics with carp; they like bread, corn, and will eat a little bug, too. If you time it right, you can bounce a jig off a bed and get a reaction strike as well. Go mess with them, they might get mad and give you a strike.
These are like South Florida bluegills. Jigs, minnows, whatever…… you can feed 'em if you’ve got the right ultralight setup.
